Within the framework of open competitive selection among universities, which is carried out by the department of machinery and automation of drives of the Ural representation of the Siemens concern (Siemens A & D), the Department o “Thermophysics and Informatics in Metallurgy” received in a perpetual lease the SIMATIC S7-300 controller package and software products for controller programming. On the basis of equipment and software for the laboratory, a stand is being developed. During the development process the main characteristics of the SIMATIC S7-300, which is used to build an automation system, programmable logic controller stand are considered. The description and the composition of the instrumental software with the use of which the ap-plication software for the controller was developed and the SCADA system for the laboratory stand were described.
